COLOUR & STYLE
One of the questions I get asked on a daily is where I get my colour done and how I style my hair, so I thought I’d put together a little post to talk you through my blonde ambition, my incredible colourist and my favourite products.
I’ve been colouring my hair since July 2016 aiming to go from my natural brown colour to a lighter, golden blonde. My colourist of choice for this journey has been Shannon Lewis, who in my opinion, is the best in the business. Shannon is based out of one of London’s most prominent salons, Neville Beauty in Belgravia and she is a genius when it comes to colour.
When I met with Shannon last year, we discussed the process and I was aware it would take a few sessions, with at least 6-8 weeks in between to get to my desired shade and with each process, I was closer and closer to my goal. Even though I was going from dark to light, I never felt like my hair was damaging or getting dry and since the first appointment, she’s had my full trust. I think I’ve got one more session to go before I’m at my ultimate goal and I can’t wait for it.
All in all, I use four products on my hair including shampoo and conditioner to get it the way I like and ever since really cutting back on using heat (hair dryer, curlers or straighteners) on a daily basis, I’ve noticed a huge boost in my hair’s health. I’ve been aiming to minimise all of the products I use in my daily life and it’s honestly made a huge difference to everything, so I implore you all to do the same.
I’ve listed my daily routine for you below, hope you enjoy!
Bumble & Bumble & Oribe
I’ve never really understood when people differentiated between shampoos/conditioners and talked about how they had preferences or even noticed a difference when trying different ones. I’ve always been so blasé with what I chose to wash my hair with, but that’s thanks to my care-free attitude of not really worrying too much about how I looked, however, since I tried Bumble & Bumble’s Surf collection everything changed.
My hair finally started to behave in a way I’ve always wanted after washing it and I rarely feel the need to do anything more than just wash it and leave it these days, prior to this, I’ve always had to style it with tongues to get my desired wave. It’s difficult to recommend shampoo’s for everyone as it all depends on your hair type, but if you have naturally wavy hair and due to climate, weather and other factors, you struggle to actually achieve your waves or curls, like me, then this is a fantastic product to try.
Because of my colour, I also aim to wash my hair with a purple shampoo at least once or twice a week to maintain the blonde. For this, I’m obsessed with Oribe, it’s a little pricey, but I bought my bottle at the beginning of the year and it’s still pretty much full because you don’t need a huge amount when using it and it’s not something I use every day, plus it’s probably one of the most beautiful bottles of shampoo I’ve ever seen, so, justified.
Darphin & Ouai
After my hair is freshly washed, I make sure I always useDarphin’s The Revitalising Oil. It isn’t pictured here, (because I ran out of it during the trip) but is an absolute staple in my routine. It’s actually for hair, body and face and I do use it all over, but particularly love it for my hair. When my hair is just about to start drying, so it’s not too wet, I massage about 4 pumps of it onto the tips and body of my hair. It just conditions it and makes it feel so soft and glossy when dry.
For days when I want an extra boost in texture, I spray my damp hair with Ouai’s wave spray. I am obsessed with this ever since trying it during the Summer. I use it when I don’t want to resort to using heat on my hair and it does such a great job.
I’ve also tried out one of Jen Atkin’s other products, the dry shampoo foam is another favourite for giving my hair some life when it’s a little greasy and I’m doing my best not to wash it every day. I love that it’s an alternative to a spray dry shampoo which I’m sometimes reluctant to use. I’m super impressed with her products and will be testing out a few more soon, too, so will share them when I’ve got some feedback.
