2016 / PERSONAL

AROUND THE WORLD. AGAIN

Top 6 Places of 2016

2016 has been one of the best years of my life. I travelled the world again, got married and started a new business. Because of the wedding and our new business venture, I wasn’t able to take on as many trips as I would have liked, even though it was so hard saying no to African safaris or a second trip to Mauritius, but I just had to prioritise my focus and make sure I was making enough time for the events in my life that were a one off.

Although I visited far more places than what I’ve chosen to round up this year, I didn’t want to repeat the same destinations as seen in my last post (apart from one of them), so here’s a list of some of the most noteworthy wanders and my personal favourites.
I hope 2016 has given you some beautiful experiences and that we’ve been able to share a little wanderlust with you.

Mauritius

MARCH

MAURITIUS

LOCATION- ROYAL PALM & DINAROBIN

After visiting the Maldives in 2015, I knew that anywhere located by the Indian Ocean was going to be on my must visit list and so being able to experience Mauritius was everything I could have imagined and more. I was spoiled to an incredible few days of lounging on the beach, cooking local cuisine, visiting a waterfall and playing witness to one of the most EPIC sunsets I’ve ever seen in my life. I also ticked something off my bucket list, and that was swimming with wild dolphins. We took off at dawn to find the dolphins by speedboat in their natural habitat, jumped in and did our best to catch up with them. It was one of the most surreal, calm and humbling experiences and I can’t wait to try it again one day.

The Caribbean

APRIL

ANGUILLA

LOCATION- CUISINART RESORT

Turning 29 in Anguilla was probably some of the most fun I’ve ever had. I was so lucky to be there with my bestie Carrie and we spent my birthday partying to reggae at a beach festival, eating cake and enjoying the best vibe. Anguilla truly stole a piece of me. It may have been my first experience of The Caribbean, but it won’t be my last. I want to head back and visit Jamaica, the Bahamas, St Barths and take as many of my friends with me as possible.

Morocco

JUNE

MARRAKECH

LOCATION- LA MAMOUNIA, EL FENN

Not my first trip, not my last. You now all know why Marrakech has such a special place in my heart. It’s where Jenai and I decided to have our wedding and last year, our first trip was to scout out the location for the wedding, we were only there for a short time and didn’t get to experience as much of it as I’ve managed to over the past 12 months, so I thought it deserved another mention.

We headed there in June, just after Carrie’s wedding in Portugal and it has to go down as one of my favourite trips of the year. Jenai and I hotel hopped every two nights, each place more different to the last, giving us such an insight into the charm of Marrakech, and the two of us knew we made the perfect decision for our wedding.

We returned to Marrakech again in September, to get married (!) and again just a few weeks ago. I can confidently say, it won’t be our last trip, there are still far too many Instagram-worthy riads to photograph and way too many beautiful rugs and ceramics for me to buy.

Cotê d’Azur

AUGUST

ST TROPEZ

LOCATION- WHITE 1921 & VILLA MARIE

Natalya and I met in Nice this Summer. We both landed an hour apart, hired a cute car and drove the coast to St Tropez. We were there to attend our beautiful cousin’s wedding in Sainte-Maxime but it was also an excuse for some quality time together in a place neither of us had ever been.

It was just a couple of weeks before my wedding and so we couldn’t stay for too long, we decided on four nights and five days and although we had big plans to hit up Cannes and Monaco as well, we got lazy and stuck to our surroundings. But at least there’s an excuse to head back for more next time.

Amalfi Coast

OCTOBER

& CAPRI

LOCATION- Various Locations

A few days after our wedding, Jenai and I were lucky enough to squeeze some time off for a mini-moon in the Amalfi Coast. I have been dying to visit ever since I put together my very first travel bucket list way back when, and upon arriving, I couldn’t contain my excitement. We packed in as much as possible in our six days away and I can’t wait to go into more about this trip when I put my post together for you next month, so until then, I won’t spoil anything.

Happy New Year!

I can’t thank you all enough for your support this year. I know I’ve been a little bit less frequent than you might like on here, but I know you now all know why, but I promise 2017 is going to be a little bit less crazy. For now, I wish you the happiest of New Year’s and so much love from both Natalya and I.
