2016. What a year it has been. I’ve gone through so many ups and downs this year but I don’t think I’d ask for one thing to be different, I’m such a believer in everything happening for a reason and I really do think that when one door closes, another opens and all for good reason and in due time.

I want to share 16 of my favourite moments, practices and learnings with you, I believe they’ve helped shaped me throughout 2016 and I’ll definitely be walking into 2017 with all of these lessons bettering me as a person.

If you’re not happy, do something about it. I resigned from two jobs this year and finally decided to run the blog full time with Reem, as well as dedicate the rest of my time to our new company, Ego & East. It was a scary move, I’ve been working for someone else since I can remember but the risk has been worth it.

Confidence is key, sounds so cliché but it’s true. I have to give myself a little reminder about that one every once in a while.

I didn’t realise how much joy I could have by watching someone else’s. Being a bridesmaid at my sister’s wedding and witnessing hers and Jenai’s vow ceremony was one of the happiest moments of my life.

The gym should be treated as ‘training’ rather than any old gym session, I try to better my performance each time I work out and challenge myself.

When you encounter a problem, focus on resolving it and finding a solution. Don’t dwell, just move on.

I learned the importance of lip liner. Colour your whole lip with the lip liner first and then add the lipstick.

It’s ok to say no, no one is going to hate you for it and if they do, fuck them.

I learnt that singing is a form of meditation, sing your heart out in the car to one of you favourite songs and I guarantee you’ll feel better afterwards.

Everything in your life should be well balanced. From your work, to what you eat and how you spend your free time.

Not having a huge group of friends isn’t a bad thing. In fact, most of the time it’s a very good thing. I am so proud to be able to know exactly who mine are.

Eyeshadow makes the BIGGEST difference to your make-up look. Like, wow, what was I doing for the past 10 years without it?

Smiling instead of getting frustrated, angry or sad can actually change your mood. Try it.

Say hi to our baby bro!

I decided that buying experiences such as travel are more important than buying the new Gucci bag everyone has, I’d rather have the memories.

I realised my posture absolutely sucks, so now I’m trying to be much more mindful about the way I carry myself. It’s not so easy.

I took my family for granted at times this year. There is actually nothing better than when your whole family is in one room, eating and laughing. At least for the first ten minutes.

Gratitude is overlooked most of the time. I’ve been trying my hardest to be mindful of expressing it to myself and those around me.

I really hope this post gives you a better insight into my personality, I know I’ve not been around on the blog much over the past year, but I promise that will change. Wishing you all the happiest of new years and all the best for 2017.
