When you think Dubai, you think contemporary, skyscrapers, fast cars, and shopping. But there’s a side to Dubai that is so unique and unlike anything you’d expect which I don’t get to experience all too often, so when Royal Caribbean invited me to partake in a little adventure to the desert, I couldn’t say no.
I invited Nadya to join me for the day and we had the best time experiencing the dunes, shooting pictures and enjoying a delicious breakfast before attempting to sand surf. We were picked up from our nearest hotel but if you are coming from a Royal Caribbean ship, you would have been dropped off at the cruise Terminal on Mina Rashid Road, DP World Cruise Terminals, from where you will be picked up for any of the available excursions.
Our day started at 8am sharp, we headed to the desert with our driver who was super informative on all things desert related, after sand dune-ing for a good 20 minutes, we hopped out of the car and found the perfect spot to take some pictures. After spending some time exploring our surroundings we headed to the camp for some breakfast before making our way back to the city.
If you’re planning a trip, I strongly urge you to organize an excursion to the desert for an alternative Dubai experience, you won’t regret it! Royal Caribbean have lots of excursions to choose from, I picked the Breakfast Dune Ride because I wanted to explore the desert during the day, my next excursion will definitely be a sunset one, I can’t even imagine how beautiful the setting will be against the golden sand hues.
Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas ship will be going to Dubai from December onwards, doing 7-night trips around the Arabian gulf (Dubai, Khasab – Oman, Muscat, Abu Dhabi, Dubai). I’ve been to all the destinations and each one has a unique element so their worth exploring if you have the time.
