THE WELCOME

Royal Palm Mauritius, Beachcomber Tours.

A couple of weeks ago, I returned to the Indian Ocean. After a trip to the Maldives last year with my mum and sister, I decided that anywhere on the Indian Ocean was on my wish list, and so being invited to visit Mauritius and experience another ‘Royal Palm’ was met with immediate excitement.

I’ve shared my love of Beachcomber Hotels before when I visited Royal Palm Marrakech, and I’m pleased to let you all know that her sister, Royal Palm Mauritius, is just as pretty.

After a 12 hour flight from London, setting foot on the beautiful and secluded grounds of Royal Palm Mauritius is nothing short of welcoming. Your first impression of the hotel is a large, wide and open air lobby and once you’re all checked in, the short walk to your beach front suite is embellished with the most stunning views of white sand and turquoise waters.

Special thanks to Beachcomber Tours for the hospitality.

THE FOOD

Royal Palm Mauritius, Beachcomber Tours.

With the inviting waters of the Ocean being just a mere 5 minutes walk from my terrace and having just been acquainted with my impeccable room including a huge bed with what I now believe to be the most comfortable pillows of all time, I had to deal with the (first world) dilemma of choosing between a nap or a swim to try and recoup some energy.

Luckily, the decision was made for me as lunch was scheduled on my itinerary at the charming Le Bar Plage. An open-air, beachfront restaurant with the natural foliage of a badamier tree to keep us shaded from the rays.

Besides La Bar Plage, there are two other beautiful restaurants at the hotel which will give you a delicious introduction to not only local cuisine but locally sourced ingredients too. Expect fresh palm hearts, seafood and tomatoes grown and sourced on the island and all put together into tempting dishes created by renowned, Michelin star awarded chef, Michel de Matteis.

THE SPA

Royal Palm Mauritius, Beachcomber Tours.

Like with any luxury trip to a beautiful resort, a visit to their in-house spa will always add to your list of memorable moments when thinking back.

It never used to be a ‘to do’ but I’ve experienced a few amazing massages in the recent years I’ve been travelling to realise that, when a spa treatment is offered, you don’t turn it down.

The spa at the Royal Palm Mauritius is fully dedicated to giving you a brand new experience of your stay at the hotel. I felt as though I was visiting an on-site boutique hotel when I turned up for my appointment. There’s a blend of indoor and outdoor when entering and it’s surrounded by so much greenery, there’s a cascading pool and inviting loungers on a sun deck that just make you think of two things, peace and quiet.

Needless to say, with a welcome like that, you can already pretty much bet that the message was completely on point. I loved it, I miss it, I want it again now.

THE ROOM

Royal Palm Mauritius, Beachcomber Tours.

If you’ve been following my travels over the past couple of years, you may have come across my stay at Royal Palm Marrakech, I had fallen in love with my suite, the bed, the bathroom, it was all just ticking the boxes.

So I had high expectations for Royal Palm Mauritius and I’m so pleased they were met. My suite was perfect, a huge bed with the coziest pillows, a sperate walk in wardrobe, double sinks (great if you’re sharing with your partner or a friend) and of course, a bathtub so giant, it was fit for a cameo on Game of Thrones.

It was hard getting out of bed in the morning, and not just because I was hitting the gym before breakfast every day, but because it was just so, damn comfortable.

THE BEACH

Royal Palm Mauritius, Beachcomber Tours.

Royal Palm Mauritius is set on a beautiful beach on the northwest coast of the island. The views are completely unspoiled and when you make your way to the beach, there’s nothing but white sands and blue hues to soak up.

The boat house offers sailing, water skiing, jet skiing and so much more to do, but if you’re a beach bunny like me, you’ll want to just lay on a lounger with a heap of factor 50 on and a coconut in hand. I’d dip into the ocean every now and again for a swim, but for the majority of the time, I was absolutely loving basking in the scorching sunshine.

I’d love to offer a word of advice at this point. Being so close to the equator, the sun is super strong in Mauritius and I would highly recommend doubling up on your usual sun protection, avoid having your face in the sun (a general rule I try to practise anyway) and definitely don’t overdo it. 20 minutes in the sun here is like an hour and a half somewhere else, so if you’re looking to get a tan, it really doesn’t take much!
